Public Relations Writing
Given my avid interest in entertainment PR, I spent my senior year Spring Break in Los Angeles, taking a one-week intensive course. In addition to hearing from industry professionals and touring studios, I spent the week learning how to apply my writing skills to industry-specific tools and tactics.
Tune-in Release • Preliminary Press Plan
During my Sophomore year, I learned the foundational writing skills vital for a successful academic and professional career in Public Relations in PRL 214: Writing for News and Public Relations in a Digital Age. For every assignment required in this course, I took on the fictional persona of a public relations professional working for Ben & Jerry’s. This helped me better understand common PR writing formats so that I can use them successfully in my future positions.

Tune-in Release
With my group, I developed this tune-in release for a show’s series premiere, balancing my knowledge of television, audiences, and PR writing techniques to create an engaging and descriptive final product.
Preliminary Press Plan
Going on beyond the information in our tune-in release, we brainstormed and crafted a press plan for the entirety of the series’ first season. This document exemplifies both my knowledge of tried and true entertainment PR tactics and my ability to conduct innovative, eye-catching campaigns based on various elements of a production.
Fact Sheet
When creating this fact sheet on Ben & Jerry’s, I used research skills and clear, concise writing, vital tools in the PR world, to compile and present all relevant information.
ENewsletter
I created this ENewsletter using the service Mailchimp on behalf of the company featuring a letter from the CEO announcing an upcoming charity event.
Newsjacking
For this assignment, I was tasked with finding a creative way to integrate Ben & Jerry’s expertise into a current event. Rather than focusing on food, I focused on the company’s commitment to gender and racial equality by drafting this email to a local reporter who had recently covered similar stories.
News Release
Writing this news release gave me the opportunity to practice this common format and AP-style writing.
